Launched by Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) in 2003, the Green Star rating system promotes better sustainability outcomes in the design and construction of our built environment. The rating system is an extension of GBCA’s purpose to lead the sustainable transformation of buildings, cities, and communities—creating healthy, resilient, and positive places.

Green Star is Australia’s largest voluntary sustainability rating system for buildings, fitouts, and community-wide developments. It takes a truly holistic approach in assessing sustainability based on its goals to reduce climate change impacts, enhance health and quality of life, restore and protect ecosystems, drive resilience in the built environments, and contribute to market transformation and a sustainable economy.
