Sustainable Stormwater Solutions to Prevent Plastic Pollution
- Description
- Curriculum
Plastic pollution is a global issue with over 300 million tonnes of plastic produced each year – and, locally, it is a common sight to see its impacts across our waterways, beaches, and oceans. Every year in Australia approximately 130,000 tonnes of plastic is conveyed from our urban communities to our marine environments.
In our webinar, presenters Hannah De Frond and Peter Hancock will examine the sources of plastic pollution – and the technologies deployed in our urban catchments, waterways, harbours, and oceans to capture it.
As the manager of International Trash Trap Network, Hannah De Frond has first-hand experience managing trash trap infrastructure – and the production of apps to help communities and governments quantify plastic pollution impacts, and inform and motivate upstream solutions.
Plastic cleanup technologies or ‘trash traps’ can be an effective tool for reducing plastic waste in our aquatic ecosystems. They amplify efforts of community cleanups, capture trash around the clock and even target small plastic pieces, including microplastics that are often too challenging to collect by hand.
Presenter Peter Hancock will also explore the ways Atlan Stormwater manufactures, installs, and maintains generational stormwater assets to capture plastic pollution in our urban catchments – and our hands-on experience with waterways clean-ups through our partnerships with Stormwater Shepherds.
By removing plastic pollution at the source, our urban catchments, we can ensure Joy in Water experiences for future generations – for you with your children and grandchildren.
